Ivy Edwards, a well known political figure in Warrington and a Freeman of the Borough, has stood down as Secretary of the Warrington Co-operative Party after 46 years in the role. During a presentation evening at Warrington Town Hall, Bill Hoult from the Co-operative Group presented Ivy with a silver medal and a fair-trade hamper.
Ivy is 82, and is the Warrington Co-operative Party's longest-serving member. Earlier last year she was invited to 10 Downing Street to meet Tony Blair who was then Prime Minister.
Although it was the first time she has met a British PM, Mrs Edwards has rubbed shoulders with other big names besides Mr Blair. In 1985 the former Labour councillor for Howley was Warrington's Mayor and met Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

And during her husband Harold's term as Mayor, she met the Queen when he received an MBE.
Despite being from Middlesex, Mrs Edwards sees herself as a Warringtonian, having moved to the town in 1960 with her husband, who died in 2000.
